October 2011: I decided I was going to commit to learning hausa (and actually do it this time). I downloaded my software got excited and actually started the programme. Things are looking up.

November 2011: My laptop crashes, everything disappears. I get it fixed and push re-downloading my software due to school work.

December 2011: I go home for christmas holiday, say I can’t do anything about hausa now I have exams in January (which I ended up not really preparing for in December)

January 2012: Happy new year! Exams, after which I ended up blowing two-third of my monthly allowance in a week, leaving me moping around the room. New semester starts, I say hausa can wait.

February 2012: I honestly don’t know what happened this month. I think I applied to get an evaluation on my modelling prospects and that was it. Don’t think I even remembered this.

March 2012: Here we are. Pushing hausa cause of coursework. Events to attend, people to see, lectures to miss, really busy month. And the only hausa word I know is still Nagode.

I thought having a blog would help me in keeping to the goal I had set for myself. It has just show me how lazy I am with new things and that’s a really bad thing :( . The sad part is that right now as I write this I have no will to carry on with it. I wonder if my brain thinks I would just wake up automatically one day and know hausa. Its something I really need to work on. Hopefully I would actually work on it.

See you soon,

It’s been quite a while since I posted due to unforeseen circumstances. My lovely laptop decided to crash. Just put it on one morning and all I saw was a blinking folder with “?” on it, all I could do was blink right back at it.

Next thing to do was get it fixed as soon as possible figuring that all my things were stored on it, educational, business and social. Big problem: No Apple store in my town. That was a big shocker considering that the town I live is one of the biggest in the area. people have to travel to my town to do things, I never have to leave town.

Finally found a store in another town 30 minutes away I was able to make an appointment checked out. The technician then says it seems your hard drive has a problem, and I’m thinking oh no I thought it was the key board *insert eye roll*. All I want is for you to save my information.

………

They couldn’t *big loud baby wail*. Everything is gone, I basically have a brand new laptop. My language software is gone and so my learning has been put on hold for about 3 weeks now. I’m not even sure I remember what I’ve learnt before, maybe just a few words.

Anyways since I’m just basically rambling now, I’m going to go now, got people coming over for the weekend :D . I shall look for my software and re-download it. Let the Journey continue :D .

See you soon,

Learning isn’t easy

So I started using this software I found and it teaches you words in the language but in my head I’m thinking this really won’t help me speak the language properly now would it. Oh well we’ll see how it goes.
This is my first time and I’m already thinking of quitting I’m such a giver-upper. *Sigh* I shall hang in there though and hopefully it pays off. I really don’t want to look for another way to learn this language this one was hard to find in itself.
Anyways I have schoolwork to finish….

See you soon

So I decided to learn Hausa

Tags

I’ve always wanted to learn a new language. At the moment I speak English and Yoruba, which is my native tongue.

So I decided I wanted to learn Spanish. Why? Because I really think Spain is a sexy country and the language sounds so beautiful. I considered French before but almost everyone learns French as a second language and I really hated it in secondary school.

Then I while I was looking for how to learn Spanish I had a thought: I always claim to be proudly Nigerian and have great interest in the different diverse cultures of my country, why aren’t I learning a Nigerian one?

So I decided that I would learn one, giving it more priority than Spanish, because I thought that I’m going to be living in Nigeria anyway and don’t really have plans to move out. And I decided Hausa because I just really like the sound of the language. It inspired me to ask for a name in Hausa, which my friend gave me plenty love for that. He gave me the name “Na’imah” which means “enjoying God’s bounty” and I just think its amazing!

I tell people that’s my proper name sometimes and I claim to be Hausa as well because I just think their women are beautiful *covers face*

Anyway I’ve decided to start learning and hopefully I’ll be faithful in it but who knows what will happen and if I’ll be a pro… but yeah I’m learning Hausa. *excited face* and we’ll see how that progresses

See you soon

Na’imah.
